Combination Skin

Based on the answers to the questions, you have combination skin.

Step 1: Cleanser

The best cleanser for your skin type is a gel based or foaming cleanser. This type of cleanser removes excess oil without compromising your barrier function.

Step 2: Toner

The best toner for your skin type would be an astringent. Astringents have the highest alcohol content and help your oily or acne prone skin to remove excess oil on your skin. Some astringents are too drying, so use in moderation.

Glycolic toners work well for this skin type.

Step 3: Exfoliation

Exfoliation is important for any skin type, but for combination skin, it’s paramount.

Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) or mechanical exfoliants such as a scrub or rotary brush (ie: Clarisonic) are the most common ways to exfoliate your skin. Weekly exfoliation is highly beneficial for your skin type, it helps to address blackheads, whiteheads and minor acne breakouts.

Exfoliation should be performed 3-4 times per week to keep breakouts at bay.

Step 4: Mask

Multi-masking works best for combination skin.

✨Oily areas: A clay mask for that area. They are designed to absorb excess oil from your skin’s surface and decongest pores.

✨Dry areas: A non-setting mask, they are designed to stay moist and are more hydrating. Look for gel or cream masks which are considered non-setting and often contain oils, emollients and humectants and they have strong moisturizing properties.

✨Dehydrated skin: A hyaluronic acid based non-setting mask would be ideal for dehydrated skin.

✨Blemished skin: Select a mask that contain arbutin, vitamin C, bearberry extract and niacinamide. These ingredients help to improve un-even skin tone and will leave your skin glowing.

Masks should be applied 2-3 times a week.

Step 5: Serum

The best serums for your skin should include antioxidants and skin-replenishing ingredients. Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acids are an excellent choice. Apply your serum to slightly damp skin, this will provide your serums with more moisture to hold on to. Serums should be applied daily.

Step 6: Moisturizer

A water-based moisturizer will rehydrate your dehydrated skin. Like a glass of water for the face, they’ll basically pour hydration into each and every pore to bring the bounce back to your skin.

Step 7 - SPF

Use an SPF of 30 or greater 365 days a year. When skin is compromised from unprotected sun exposure, it makes it less able to hold moisture.
